Chatham County Schools

Something good is going to happen today

Mervin Jenkins, Principal of Horton Middle School, has resigned from Chatham County Schools effective May 31. Jenkins, who is in his second year as at Horton, is leaving to take a position in Atlanta with AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) as Eastern Division Assistant Director. The district hopes to name an interim principal during the Board of Education meeting on Monday night, May 12.

“My time at Horton has been one of the most memorable experiences in my professional career. We focused on creating a family and managed to do that as well as see our students excel. I will miss the friends I have made and the guidance that I have received, but, most of all, I will miss the students,” said Jenkins.

“We regret Mr. Jenkins is leaving us, but sincerely wish him the best as he moves into a new phase of his professional life,” commented Robert Logan, Superintendent of Chatham County Schools.

I have attended many Woods school board meetings as well as many Chatham County school board meetings. Woods' meetings are no more inefficient, though they often entail much more detail about what is happening in the school (since they have 500 students v 7000+ in CCS schools).
